Abstract
The design and implementation of embedded and distributed real-time systems share many principles with traditional software design. Object-oriented methods are suitable for these systems, but they bring two competing objectives together: abstraction, inheritance and polymorphism help engineers manage complex software, while embedded applications require direct hardware access and highly efficient use of limited computing resources.
This dissertation introduces Concurrent Object Nets, an object-oriented design method developed specifically for distributed embedded real-time systems. It provides a graphical semantics for classes, objects and their interactions, complemented by a formal Petri-net semantics. An integrated hardware-abstraction framework combines optimized hardware access with portability and code efficiency.

Abstract
The habilitation examines virtual goods and digital products from an informational perspective. It develops a structured distinction between virtual goods, services and consumable data, and connects these concepts with business models, revenue mechanisms and the economic characteristics of digital markets.
The work analyzes distribution and control technologies, Digital Rights Management and payment systems, then develops alternative approaches for software and media distribution. Its central contributions include lightweight DRM and the PotatoSystem, a peer-to-peer-oriented model that turns buyers into resellers and combines technical architecture with pricing and commission mechanisms.
